Fresh Food Day 2017
On October 7th, Feed Lake Highlands and The New Room Fellowship participated in Fresh Food Day, an annual event co-hosted by The Episcopal Church of the Ascension, KidsU and Feed Lake Highlands. It was a huge success! Three hundred community residents from along the Whitehurst corridor gathered for fresh food, tips on how to live a healthy lifestyle, fellowship and fun!
Kids got to play in the bounce house, get their faces painted, play games, enjoy crafts and there was even a Zumba dance line. Various participating organizations offered information about health while Walgreens Pharmacy administered free flu shots to everyone.
The Beta Club from Moss Haven elementary and the National Honor Society (NHS) at Lake Highlands High School held food drives for the snack packs. They also served behind the tables distributing them on the day of the event. The NHS students hand decorated each of the 300 snack packs with cute pictures and sayings - all tied to healthy food and eating!
We are so thankful for these students and their help in serving our neighbors. We are also grateful for the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, Walgreens Pharmacy, and all volunteers who served and made this day a success!
