Full Stomachs and Full Hearts!
On Wednesdays over at FLH’s Food Distribution, program members eat well! They start with banana and zucchini bread made by our resident health care specialist, Faith and Community Nurse Katy Jensen! Then they have the opportunity to shop our canned goods and frozen proteins. In between those two stations they make a stop at the overflowing fresh produce tables and receive their portion of the day’s wonderful choices of squash, peppers, apples, oranges, cucumbers, etc from Sharing Life. We are blessed by our partnership with Lake Highlands Community Garden and Northpark Presbyterian Hydroponic Garden for their greens and tomatoes. You should stop by to see these tomatoes - and taste one while you visit!
FLH fights hunger and feeds hope as we distribute supplemental groceries. But on Sundays we have been on the receiving end of food! The National Charity League and the Lake Highlands Women’s League have faithfully made us casseroles for Sunday fellowship luncheons that follow New Room Community Fellowship worship services on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month. And have we eaten well! Yummy to our taste buds and so plentiful in amounts that folks have had the chance to take home leftovers for another meal. On 1st and 3rd Sundays, our children’s choir and youth group stay after worship. These 30 children, youth and leaders have been eating delicious sack lunches made by the LH Women’s League and once, a LHHS National Honor Society student. We have had so much fun trading chips and desserts among the tables of people as we give thanks to the makers of these meals.
These meals have filled our stomachs, but also our hearts with love and encouragement.
Thank you so much to the faithful servants of these organizations.
