Remembering Sue Smith

We give thanks to God for Sue Smith, long time member of Lake Highlands UMC and very active servant of God for many years with the church family and Feed Lake Highlands.  Sue passed away in 2018, but her legacy and example lives on in the hearts of those who served with her and those she served.

A recent memorial service at Presbyterian Hospital where she served as a nurse marked the one year anniversary of her welcome home party in heaven.

Sue was an active participant in the Good News Sunday School class where she nurtured and cared for the many who passed through and several who still remain active to this day.  She eagerly served as a Communion Steward for the Contemporary Service at LHUMC and faithfully attended a Women’s Bible study group.

Sue didn’t simply study on Thursday mornings or serve on Sundays at LHUMC, she also shared her love with others in the community beyond the LHUMC church family.  She was a ministry leader at White Rock Trail Fellowship and then Glen Oaks Fellowship many years ago, making disciples of children and adults who didn’t have a local church setting to attend.   Sue continued to share her love with others by serving with Feed Lake Highlands for the past 6 years. She helped adults get much needed food for their family on Wednesdays and encouraged children who needed extra help with their school work on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  All in all, her love for people was genuine to the core and she will be greatly missed.

Sue’s heart was as big as Texas, but it reached into Colorado where she looked forward to spending summers at her family’s vacation home.  Her faith was unfailing; her influences that of a calming, gentle spirit. If it could ever be said that one “walked the talk” that would apply to Sue.  When life presents challenging moments, her best friend says she hears in her heart Sue’s trademark remark, “It will be okay.” Her spirit lives on in all who knew and were influenced by her.

Thanks be to God for this life that touched so many! We will miss her greatly!
