Who We Are

About Feed Lake Highlands
Feed Lake Highlands is a a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving the Lake Highlands community with a mission to combat food insecurity and lift up our neighbors on fixed, limited, or low incomes. We serve families in the zip codes of 75231, 75238 and 75243 – all zip codes in the Lake Highlands High School attendance zone.
Our Story
In May 2007, The New Room Church and Community Center were established as an outreach of Lake Highlands United Methodist Church to serve those living in the apartment communities along the Whitehurst Corridor and beyond. Through this work, we came face to face with the poverty and food insecurity in our community, among our neighbors and new friends. Our eyes were opened and our hearts were enlarged.
Five years later, Feed Lake Highlands was established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and began food distribution to care for our marginalized neighbors. We served 15 families on that first distribution day. Today, we feed over 100 families each Wednesday, providing over 5,000 meals per week.
From the beginning, we believe in building relationships through our service and empower families to thrive.

Growing Our Impact With Your Help
Looking ahead, we remain committed to a Lake Highlands where every neighbor is fed, valued, and supported.
We have an ambitious vision to exponentially increase our impact and achieving this vision will only be possible through the continued partnership of our dedicated donors, community-minded businesses, and local philanthropic churches.
A Dedicated Home for Feed Lake Highlands

Currently, we share space with New Room Church to distribute groceries to our neighbors, requiring off-site storage and hours of setup and breakdown each week. Securing our own space – complete with fully equipped food pantry, refrigeration, and storage – would allow us to serve more families throughout the week with extended hours of operation.
Expanded Mobile
Food Delivery

Many of our neighbors cannot easily reach our distribution site due to transportation barriers or work schedules. By expanding our mobile grocery delivery through the Bookmobile, we can bring nutritious food directly to the Lake Highlands communities that need it most.
Grocery Bags in Every Lake Highlands School

We plan to expand upon and deepen our partnership with local schools by providing stocked grocery bags on-site. This will empower school counselors and social workers to send food home with students, ensuring no child goes hungry because of barriers to access.
These goals are ambitious but achievable with your support. Together we can establish Feed Lake Highlands as a reliable resource for our neighbors today and for generations to come.
